Giving Back is the New Black

Happy New Year! As I reflect on the many blessings we received in 2015, I can't help but think of the less fortunate families and individuals right here in our city. As you know, one of our values is Giving Back to the Community that gives us so much. We partnered with nine St. Louis nonprofit organizations last year and helped raise over $2,400 through our "You Purchase. We Donate" campaigns. We're kicking off 2016 by supporting Bread and Roses

This is how it works:

  • WHAT: You shop our Fair Trade gifts at our store located at 3211 South Grand Blvd., 63118
  • WHEN: Tuesday, February 9 to Friday, February 12
  • RESULT: we will donate 15% of all in-store and online sales to Bread and Roses!

Bread & Roses Missouri is a celebration of the arts in the lives of working people and their families. As the labor hymn for which the organization is named reminds us, “Hearts starve as well as bodies…”
Their mission is to organize and participate in arts and humanities events, exhibits, and workshops for and about workers and their families that address the root causes of poverty and inequality and that moves us toward an economic base that benefits the entire community. Bread & Roses believes in equality for all on and off the job. Using an arts lens, they are committed to fighting against racism, sexism and other forms of discrimination and for affirmative action, cultural diversity and a more just society for all.

Some of their current projects include:

Youth Initiative. Bread & Roses Missouri works with youth between the ages of seven and eighteen, providing after school and summer programs that focus on the themes of home, family, work, and community by encouraging artistic expression and creativity that explores and deepens understandings of these topics.

Adult Programming. Bread & Roses Missouri is currently looking for opportunities to provide creative writing/poetry, visual arts and theater workshops for Saint Louis area workers to explore economic and social justice themes through an arts lens.

This February, give a gift made with love to someone you love and support the great work of Bread and Roses. Join us on social media and share this with everyone in your network.

Can't make it to our store? Shop online from Tuesday, February 9 to Friday, February 12 and we'll include this on the total sales. Alternatively, consider making a tax deductible donation to Bread and Roses HERE.
