*Tree-free papers are made from recovered cotton that comes from textile industry waste by-products. Cotton fibers are naturally whiter, brighter and more durable and permanent than wood fibers. The beauty of cotton is that it contains very little lignin (the compound that makes tree trunks sturdy) and is alpha-cellulose. This means it requires very little bleaching.

Sana Hastakala, which means "small handicraft" in Nepali, is a nongovernmental, nonprofit export organization based in Kathmandu. Sana Hastakala works to preserve the rich artistic skill and traditions of Nepali artisans, and provides additional training and marketing assistance to artisans. 80% of the artisans are women; most artisans are uneducated.

Starfish Project provides life-changing opportunities through their Holistic Care Programs and their social enterprise where women create beautiful jewelry and become managers, accountants, graphic designers, and photographers. Through these programs, they provide vocational training, healthcare, shelter, counseling, and education grants for the women and their children. Starfish Project has employed over 130 women and has served thousands through their Community Outreach Services.
