These baskets are made from river grass, known as "elephant grass" by local weavers in Bolgatanga, Ghana. Baskets with leather handles are wrapped in goat skin for comfort and durability. The leather is naturally tanned using local seeds and red millet, either brown or black.
With every product you purchase, you are helping provide employment, educational opportunities and medical care to artisans in Ghana.
These baskets are so beautiful and functional. I have several and just purchased one for a friend as a gjft.
I ordered 2 different mini Bolgas. Different colors and the sizes/shape are little different. But that’s what helps to show their made by hand. The colors are vibrant and beautiful. I love both of them.
I just received my 4th mini Bolga basket. I have gifted 2. I’m in love with these. They are perfect for storing rolled up Kantha towels or other smaller items.
We purchased this for our daughter, to use as an Easter basket and for subsequent play. It is colorful, cheery, the perfect size for little hands, and, best of all, well enough constructed to withstand lots of toddler love! We couldn’t be happier with this purchase.
If you are a bolga basket fan you'll love this mini bolga. Just like a regular size bolga with a leather wrapped handle, but in such a cute size! Great for mail, car keys, wash cloths and toiletries in a guest bath, an Easter basket, gift basket, etc. I absolutely love this basket.
